Cas Stavert

I am a writer of mainly historical fiction and an adult education worker who has lived for most of my life in Edinburgh, hence the banner. I enjoy research which I learnt to do while writing dissertations and researching family history. Having always read a lot of historical fiction, when I started writing, the ideas were for historical novels rather than contemporary ones, and it always seemed natural to give them a Scottish connection.

Like many writers I have a first novel sitting in my bottom drawer that I am determined will never see the light of day - it really is that awful. Fortunately, I've had a lot of practice since I wrote it and I'm a much better writer than I used to be.

While I prefer writing historical novels, I find I also write contemporary short stories and novellas. To my delight some of these have even been published. I am a member of the Historical Novel Society and write reviews for Historical Novels Review and Historical Novels Review Online.
